Lakers Miscues Cost Them Chance to be .500

The fundamental Spurs shot less 40%, their big 3 went 18/45, in part to their back court going 9/26, Manu and Tony combined has as many baskets as Timmy. The Lakers out rebounded them, blocked more shots, shot better, attempted twice the free throws, oh an they were at home and still lost! Let me repeat that the Spurs played their age and somehow still found a way to beat the drama filled Lake Show. Elsewhere the other LA team is actually playing ball and just took down another elite team slowly becoming the show to watch in La La Land, real fans will still follow the purple and gold, but to see the Clips actually balling better than the Lakers is just depressing. Well, back to the game, the Lakers missed an opportunity to beat a good team by still turning the ball too much, and even though they won the rebound battle, failing to secure the critical ones. Superman knotted another double double 13/15/3 but also added 6 mishaps, SIX are you kidding? Between Dwight and Meeks they had half the Lakers miscues, I really don't remember Dwight being so sloppy in Orlando, and I saw him play plenty as he was one of the players I followed. Most infuriating was the fact that one occasion Tony the smallest guy on the floor snuck in a tip in with Mamba, and the bigs just watching, BOX OUT, go to the ball, don't let the ball come to you, my God, you learn this shit in pee wee. Then there was the bizarre last play where one of the best closers in history failed to even look at the ball and ended with big man Gasol shooting a 3, WTF? As a result the Lakers, are not at the bottom overall, but still looking up in the West, can't wait to see D'Antoni at the bench already, surely should look better, 3 more home games to go on this bounce back stint.

Player of the Game: The ageless wonder Tim Duncan led the Spurs with 18 points, 9 board, 4 dimes, and 4 rejections, can't help but appreciate a player like the old fundamental.

X-Factor: The ever reliable role players the Spurs have had over the years, not stars, but still find a way to help out, Danny Green while only shooting 4/12 still had the sac to take the game winning 3 over Mamba without a flinch.

Should Have Been Benched: Don't understand why a proven player as Duhon didn't start, but the kid who did couldn't the big light and in 21 minutes contributed 1 point, 2 rebounds 1 assist, 1/4 freebies and a donut from 5 attempts, eesh.

Laker Hater: Splitter tied or had season high in points, assists, rebounds, blocks, steals, and field goals. Either the sight of the Lakers bring out the best or these Lakers team really sucks so far.

Overtime: The snubbing of Zen Master Phil Jackson still dominates everything Lakers, luckily this team is no stranger to drama, no matter how good other teams are doing, the Lakers are always top news love 'em or hate 'em. Even after 25 years I still find it funny how much people hate them and the base of how they are measured. Funny how haters always say they suck and they are dead, even in their title years, but the only thing they can base it on is that they exited early or didn't win it all. While other teams if they make the post season is an accomplishment, if they go to the second round it's a step in the right direction, but the Lakers do that and they suck. It's true what Chick said, "The Lakers do not hang division banners, they hang Championship banners". Wouldn't the Clippers possible division banner just look odd against the dozen banner representing the 16 titles of the Lakers? And over time, how would that look? Other teams highlight involve how close they got, the Lakers are measured whether they won it or not. Peace out haters.

7 Seconds or Less Coming to Hollywood

In the 25 years I have followed the Lakers, one thing they have been consistent about is not doing the expected. From wining every year to questionable signings and game time decisions and performance, it can be pretty frustrating to cheer for the purple and gold. One thing for sure, "dull" the Lakers are not. With anyone knowing a thing about NBA, Phil Jackson return to Hollywood was already written it was just a matter of when he'd be starting and who was he bringing along. Then the Laker surprised everyone, really at this point can the Lakers really surprise anymore?, anyway they shocked the basketball world by passing on the Zen Master owner of more rings than fingers, to sign the run and gun style of Nash's best years front man, Mike D'Antoni. The "experts" are appalled with many predicting a blown chance to get another trophy for the Buss family, since according to sources the job was for PJ to turn down. Nothing is ever set in stone for the Lakers. Pros and Cons point out the hardware, 11-2 Finals record in the last 21 years, including a trio of three-peats and a one back to back against a someone who has never gone to the big dance. Well when you put it that way, then the Lakes screwed up, but's let's rewind a sec, to Phil's last hurrah almost 2 1/2 years ago when the title run Mavs put a hurting on them in a most embarrassing way emphasized by the cheap shots of Bynum and Odom. Anyone remember the lifeless Lakers of that year with an "improved" roster that failed to finish off a team that until then was know for choking the playoffs? All was not well then, it seemed the Zen Master stayed one season too long, but can you blame him, the Lakers had a chance to give him another triple crown, but the effort was not there of past championship teams. So the Lakers moved on with life without Phil, something that didn't work out too well the last time they tried to cut ties the triangle, for those with a short memory, the Lakers missed the playoffs that year and also did not finish with their start of the season coach. PJ was rehired, Lakers become significant again ant 3 straight Finals appearances with 2 titles followed, it's a no brainer the Lakers can't win with out Phil right? Not entirely, while his second stint was successful, c'mon anytime you can bring consecutive titles to your tenure how could it be viewed as anything but success, his start did not succeed from the get go, it took 3 years and arrival of the Spaniard to get them back to the Finals only to again get spanked in historic fashion by the hated Leprechauns. The interest and fun of the title years was gone in Phil's last year, maybe it was the new additions or the need to change from a proven system that had gotten to familiar and boring whatever it was Phil's last year was disappointing. So why not now? You would think the Lakers would admit his system works and they need him to be successful and may awaken that interest again in the quest for another ring. But no, the Lakers decided to go with another coach stating Phil price was a little high. If it's pricing, then we as fans don't feel the Lakers want to win then, as they're shouldn't be a price to high for guaranteed success. So that can't be it, what about control? Apparently Phil wanted a little more control, in other words not have to deal with Junior Buss who from what is said is not his BFF. If one thing the Lakers have made clear in recent years, it's that no one but Magic and Kareem were bigger than the franchise. Shaq learned it and now so has Phil, sure they could have won, there is no denying what the return of Phil would have done to the Lakers, but the Big Bad Lakers are not gonna succumb to a coach even at the expense of winning. So now what? Are we stuck with sloppy seconds? Well if you feel that way, then you don't know basketball, new head man D'Antoni is more than capable of guiding the Lakers to the promise land if the players are willing to bust their ass for him. While I find it hard to believe the 7 seconds offense will be instilled on this aging Laker squad, the fact that D'Antoni trusts Nash will make his adjusting easier. Yes the Lakers are slow compared to blurs the west poing guards are, but it's not like they're glued to the floors. His Suns teams fastest player was Barbosa, Matrix was the versatile one, and A'mare was the freak athletic big man. In 2005 future Atlanta millionaire Joe Johnson was the perfect Nash running mate who stretched the floor along with streaky Q Richardson. The Suns had a balanced attack relieved by the Brazilian Blur and sometimes Jim Jackson. Nash would get MVP and Suns the best record. Then Joe took a stumble and the Suns lost a huge piece of the offense. No one seems to remember that, he was not the same again for the rest of the post season, missing 6 games, it's good to point out that the sole victory against the Spurs he netted 26 points. No game was won by more than 9 points, so you'd figure a player with his shooting ability would have made a difference. While Spurs still may have won, things sure were looking up for the Suns, then bad luck hit again, and A'mare was sidelined for season, the roster now included more gunners, Tim Thomas, Boris Diaw, Eddie House, James Jones and Defensive Specialist Raja Bell. Even without their All-NBA big man Nash would get another MVP and they made a second trip to the West Finals only to lose to the Mavs, can you imagine if he had been healthy? A'mare would return in '07 and the Suns would continue to be contenders, in probably the most painful of their runs, first with famous game when the great medical staff of Phoenix could not get Nash and his gash into the game again and then the Suns would get absolutely robbed when Laker favorite almost tarnished his legacy with a cheap leveling of Steve Nash into the scorers table. The suspensions sealed this series and I didn't see anymore of the playoffs that year, what for? The title had been given to the Spurs already. That Suns team would have gone to the Finals and won it, giving Nash his well deserved ring and D'Antoni a place along the few coaches to win during the Phil Jackson, Gregg Popovich era. The D'Antoni era would end next year when the Shaq experiment failed in Phoenix exiting early once again against the hated Spurs. So what would some good luck in their way have meant? They easily could have had 3 straight Final appearances if not for bad luck, D'Antoni reputation would have been quite different. While I don't expect the same barrage of 3s the Suns had I do think D'Antoni is going to bring back a fun style to the Lakers, will it work? As good as the Suns were in his tenure, D'Antoni's never had a hall of famer scorer like Bryant, or a defensive big man like Howard, add a skilled big man in Gasol and the defensive mentality of Ron Ron with the IQ of Steve Nash and the possibilities are actually quite scary. I'm looking forward to this change and hope both D'Antoni and Nash can finally get their ring.

Next Coach Drama Over Shadows Game, Lakers on First Win Streak

With the Lakers dominating the last game and the lotto bound short handed divisin nemesis Kings coming into town, an easy victory was penned leaving just one unanswered question? "When is Phil Jackson coming?" With more chants saying "We Want Phil" being heard more than "Defense", the game came and went with the outcome really never in question, although closer than expected. With two of their big men missing mainly DaMarcus Cousins, the Laker bigs should've had their way with the Kings, and while they did combine for 45 points, 23 boards, and 5 blocks and that's only Howard and Pau, I think an ass whupping like they gave the Warriors was expected. Mamba finished with a quiet 20/6/6, while Ron Ron shot well and finished with 18 points. Nash replament Blake ended up missing part of the game with an abdominal strain and besided 4 dimes, was non existent. Morris and Duhon combined little but still some. Speaking of which after having a pretty decent game from the reserves against the Kings they again retorted to their awful ways even in extended garbage time. The high point was Jordan Hill who in 19 minutes tallyed 8 points and 7 boards, off season key free agents Meeks and Jamison combined for 1/8 shooting and just 2 points, eesh! All in all, the Lake Show are on their first win streak, a win is a win right?

Player of the Game: Mamba was +18 for the game, the Lakers just seemed more in control when he was on the floor. Now if only he can get some help from the shooters, they'll be rollin'

X-Factor: The Artest formally known as Ron may be a bit slower these days, but hey how bout that alley oop? Even in his young days I never seen Ron Ron finsish up like that, anywho, you know what you're getting from Ron Ron solid, annoying, right on your grill, old fashioned physical D. And while most of us cringe at the thought of him shooting, you gotta admit, when he's on, he really give the Lakers another dimension, cuz no matter how hot he gets, teams just let him keep shooting, in this case it worked out pretty well for the Lake Show, he finished 6/11 for 18 points.

Should Have Been Benched: He already is, Jamison just cannot find his groove, this time he only attempted 2 shots, missing both in just 11 minutes, this is supposed to be the 6th man? Oy! He at least got 1 blk and 1 steal, not much but hey for someone not know for defense, it's a start.

Laker Hater: While in extreme garbage time Jimmer Fredette still shot a ridiculous 78% on 7/9 including 3/5 from downtown, an early season high I may add.

Overtime: Soon after the game finished we learned that Lakers decided on Mike D'antoni and not zen master Phil Jackson, much to the dismay of many fans. Either way a change of pace was needed, D'Antoni is a very capable coach it's gonna be interesting how it works out, if for some reason it doesn't, it's not gonna be very fun for us fans who had high expectations this year.

Lakers Start Post Mike Brown Era On High Note

Mike Brown is out as is the Princeton experiment, even though Kobe said after the game they did use a few times, I sure didn't see it. The top news in the league and still going is Brown is out, who's in? The Lake show were by no means distracted though, they played loose, energetic and put a pounding on the short handed Warriors. This was not the same team I saw vs. the Jazz, the team looked alive, interested vs. the Warriors and no surprise their best over all game so far. It was not perfect but it was great to see a defensive effort like the one they put out, even if it was against a lotto bound team like the Warriors, this was the same team that beat the new LA Kings I remind you. Across the board the Lakers had decent games, the bench even saw extended minutes and beat their counterparts convincingly. Forgotten man Jodie Meeks had his best games tallying 7 points, Jordan Hill added 14 on a perfect 5/5, Jamison while only shooting 2/7 still contributed with 6 boards and a superb defensive play vs. former high flyer Richard Jefferson, and lastly Darius Morris earned extended play with his great play finishing with 10 points 5 dimes and 5 boards several small steps that can be the start of gret things to come. World Peace while shooting terrible also pulled 7 boards, and kept his usual defense and had some plays that excited the fans with his antics. All in all, doesn't seem anyone misses Coach Brown, not it's just how long they will have to wait for the next coach, doubt it'll take more than a week, I just hope they can sustain the emotional level and use this home stand as a launching board. Only negative was still too many turnover, 16.

Player of the Game: Mamba flirting with a triple double and shot over 50% from the field overall. Looks like that foot is healing well.

X-Factor: The Spaniard followed his abyssmal game in Utah with 14 points, a season high 16 boards, and 2 rejections and dimes. Nice bounce back game.

Should Have Been Benched: On this emotional night, can't think of anyone that belongs here, sure some had poor games, but the intensity and effort was team wide.

Laker Hater: No one for the Warriors had a stand out game, I think that's a first.

Panic Button Hit, Lakers Part Ways With Coach Brown

One day after reading that both Kobe and the Buss family supported Mike Brown and that his job was I was shocked to see that the Breaking News was that Coach Brown had just been fired. Even though I actually expected it if they continued to struggle I'd figure it would come depending on the results of the upcoming home stand. Instead as if the Lakers did not have enough drama now they have gone back to drawing boards after just 5 games. Good move, bad move? I gotta the Lakers have not looked good for the most part, sure they have had some positive moments and it's unfair to rate them when still not at full strength but these are the Lakers, there is no room for error when it comes to the franchise. Mike Brown was in a tough spot from day one, but really how many candidates could actually follow up a legend? Last year was not great, but it was not the disappointment that has been this young season. The worst part was the body language and disinterest by the players, they clearly are not in the same page, will a new direction help, well that depends on who's calling the shots. The Lakers need somebody that it's not intimidated by their history and can handle the bright lights of Hollywood. Mike Brown while an excellent assistant coach, didn't see him as a man in charge. Not for lack of effort, he said plenty, was a good teacher, but didn't seem like stars gave him his place. So now what? Give the reigns to Bickerstaff? No likely, the one coach who can come in demand hard work and attention is of course the Zen Master, but is he willing to give it another try? There actually a few candidates available if the LA savior declines a chance to get a dirty dozen of rings, Mike D'antoni, who when teamed with Nash had great success and Kobe respects would surely bring a "Showtime" like rebirth that would soon erase this terrible start, but defense is not his forte. There's Nate McMillan, a superb coach with a defensive mentality and one who I think would be a nice breath of fresh air, but with this roster needing to win now, don't know if the team is willing to give him a shot at this time. While still an assistant in Indiana, Brian Shaw should have been their first choice, but to get him even if he was available would be an admission that they were wrong, so I don't see that happening. Then there's the one I would love to see, Utah legend Jerry Sloan, here's someone who could deal with egos and would not expect anything less that 120% and doesn't have time for bullshit, but that's asking too much.

Back to Brown, judging from the first five games, the players did not seem to adapt to the new offense. Everyone looked out of position and unfocused, the high turnovers are proof of that. The main problem I saw that it didn't seem the players were doing what they were brought in to do. I mean the only player that seem comfortable was Bryant who was shooting almost 60% through the first 4 games, then the Utah game came and the whole team looked lost. You know it's not rocket science you have some great individual talent in each position, my God use it. You don't want to see Nash playing off the ball, Howard and Pau at high elbow, Artest playing two guard, WTF?, and what about Meeks not even getting a chance to play, with four possible post threats shooters like him will get open shots, shooters need to shoot, sure he's in a funk, but at least use him for what he was brought in for, don't replace him with Artest, damn. The walking the ball and getting the offense set up was also ridiculous, what is this High School? You employ a floor general like Nash, you let him loose, if nothing's available you call a play, but Coach Brown clearly was not using the players like most expected, but hey what do hell do I know, he's the pro Head Coach right? Finally, wasn't Brown supposed to be a defensive minded coach? It sure didn't seem like it, the effort was awful, and that starts with the respect and trust of the coach, no effort was given the last game, the players focused more on frustration than getting over the hump, so I feel this move was good, a change was needed.
Best wishes to Coach Brown though, it was an unfortunate situation, and he was done before he could even start.

Let's hope the Buss family doesn't settle and gets a good candidate. Go Lakers!

Lakers Lack Intensity, Interest, now last in West at 1-4

Back in the 90-91 season the Lakers started a new era without the most recent coach of the year Pat Riley, it was strange to see the suited mastermind on the baselines, but alas the Lakers were under new direction. After a disappointing previous season that had them lose 4-1 vs. the Suns even with home court advantage, Showtime had plenty to motivate them and reloaded with the addition of versatile Sam Perkins and instant offense Terry Teagle, the outlook looked promising. Then the season started and the Lakers looked a little different from the Riley years, they still competed, but after 5 games, sat at 1-4. It would be 3 games later before they actually found a groove and embarked on a 8 game win streak, I still remember the Lakers last loss before the streak against the Mavs, which showed Magic looking stunned at their current 2-5 record. Fans really could not understand what the problem was they had the same core of Magic, Worthy, Scott, and added Perkins, Green and Drew was still there, Teagle was a reserve, and Divac was having a better season than his rookie, plush they had some nice rookies in Elden Campbell and Tony Smith. Yet they were to the worst start in the Magic Era, slowly it changed through 20 games they were 13-7, and started the new year with a 16 game win streak and never looked back. For those who don't remember this season, they would end up upsetting one of the best teams not to win a title, the '91 Blazers en route to the only Magic vs. Michael series. The Bulls of course would win their first title as Showtime came to a close. These Lakes seem a little like the '91 version, they look confused on uncomfortable with the new system, even though is the same coach from last year even with the additions still have pieces that won them their last title, so what's the issue? Seeing the game yesterday, the Lakers lack intensity, trust, interest, effort you name it, it's right down ugly. It's only 5 games but Howard is not the same Howard from Orlando, I hope it's he's still playing himself into shape because right now he doesn't look like he fits with the Lakers. I had never seen him, loose so many rebound battles, miss block shots, hell teams don't even show they're intimidated by the former defensive player of the year, and he is just complaining too much to the refs. Like in the last two seasons, the Lakers don't seem to be enjoying themselves and the frustration is showing, with the 6 game home stand coming up and only two of them being playoff teams, it's a good time to get back in track, enjoy the ball game, and get that monkey off their back. So far I have not been impressed by the Princeton offense, it's pass, pass, pass, pass, bad shot, might as well just let Kobe isolate, at least Pau and Howard would expect to get rebound and not play on the high post.  The other option ends up with Pau or Howard in the post and rushed shot that ends up in a turnover, why not just hit the post from the get go? The players clearly are not embracing it, let them run, let them give fans what they want, I guarantee you, if they were at least giving the fans something to get excited about or cheer show some effort, we wouldn't be concerned about the 1-4 start. Something also needs to be done about the bench, it's even more abysmal than last year, what the hell, why can't the Lake Show get consistent bench production. Oh Lamar, Farmar, Brown, and Machine how I miss thee. At this point I'd take a gamble with Delonte West, Q Richardson, KMart, hell even T-Mac, someone with at least a trigger finger.

Player of the Game: Mo Williams continues to be a thorn on the Lakers ass and pretty much did anything he wanted out on the floor, the Jazz looked much in control when he was in.

X-Factor: Big man Enis Kanter showed the strength of Howard and frustrated him letting his team make a good run and gain momentum.

Should Have Been Benched: This has got to be one of the worst games by the Spaniard that I have seen he only took 9 shots, made 2 freebies, 7 boards, and 5 points overall, this is an All-Star we're talking about.

Laker Hater: Randy Foye 5 treys is the highest this early season, way to find your stroke hater

Overtime: For as lousy and uninspired as the Lakers seem they did make a run, but again the turnovers, 19, 5 from Howard and 6 from Bryant are seriously hurting them. Elsewhere, Lob City lived to their name capping an ugly night for me a beating convincingly the then undefeated Spurs. Did not see game but judging from the highlights Griffin and Jordan put up quite an air show. Finally the Lakers are currently last in the West, and 3rd to last overall, Bobcats, Bucks, Magic, Warriors, Raptors, Suns, Kings, Cavaliers, Hornets all have better records that LA, only the win less Pistons and Wall-less Wizards have worst records, is it time to panic? Let's see in 15 more games.

2012-2013 Predictions

The much anticipated 2012-13 season is here, it's time again to separate pretenders from contenders and determine who's the real deal and just hype. Again I'm making the following analysis based on teams staying in good health. I'll break them down by divisions ranked from worst to best:

**Update** I originally started before the Harden trade had occurred, I think he'll give Houston some wins, but will stand by my original predictions.

ATLANTIC

Toronto - The Raptor happen to play in the Least's strongest division, so a 5th trip to the lottery is assured. It's not that their bad, the Atlantic is stacked and will send 4 teams to the post season, they have some nice additions with Kyle Lowry and rookie Jonas Valanciunas along with former Knick Landry Fields.  Calderon and Bargnani will still start and the former #1 pick should flourish playing the 4 spot.  Give them a couple of years and they should be contending for the playoffs. Prediction: Lotto Bound.

Philadelphia - Last years surprise team lost some key contributors from last season's run, they now however own the 2nd best center in the league in former Laker Andrew Bynum. Last season first time all-star has much to prove as he will now be the focal point of the franchise. The sixers will be a good team, but also suffer from being in a stacked division. With Iguodala and Brand gone they've lost some front court defense and lost a big bench threat with Lou Williasm going home to Atlanta. Still the starters look solid and the bench looks decent. Worst case scenario is Bynum playing limited games which will hurt their chances in making the post season again, even then I don't think they can be higher than 8. Prediction: Date with East top seed, first round exit.

Brooklyn - The former Nets start a new chapter in their franchise and the expectations are high, with some even claiming they're the best in team in NY. Not just yet, while the Nets starting five looks great, they got very little from the bench. The starters should be fun to watch and a nightmare to play. In Wallace and Humphries they own two of the scrappiest hard workers in the league, say what you will about the former Kardashian beau, only 11 players averaged a double double last year, and he was one of them, and Wallace is still a great wing defender and finisher. Brook Lopez is better than Dwight Howard according to Shaq so they should be good in the middle. D-Will also now has a legitimate scoring threat with the addition of Joe Johnson, if they get decent production from the bench, they could be a nuisance. Prediction: Return to playoff no higher than 5 seed, first found exit.

New York - The mecca of basketball brought it in an impressive collection of new faces including some former all-stars, the drawback is that their best years are behind them. The leagues oldest team has plenty experience but some have logged in a vast amount of miles already. To add concern, Amar'e won't be ready for about six weeks, which actually could be good thing. At full strength the front court is one of the best in the league with Melo and Chandler joingin Amar'e. Raymond Felton returns to the big apple where he first joined Amar'e and had a pretty decent run til being traded. Newcomer Ronnie Brewer comes in from two good runs with the Bulls and adds a nice defensive minded wing. The bench is not bad with sharpshooter J.R. Smith and Novak joining future Hall of Famer Jason Kidd, 2nd year Iman Shurpert and former Knick Marcus Camby will be the reserve big men and old school Kurt Thomas and 'Sheed Wallace should do damage in limited time. Prediction: top four seed, 2nd round exit

Boston - The Leprechauns loaded up nicely to give it one more run in KG and Pierce's career. The breakup of the big three adds to the intensity whenever they face the newly crowned champs. Boston remains Miami's top threat and if healthy will still threaten in the East finals with the addition of super sub Jason Terry, Courtney Lee, and the Brazilian Blur. The return of Green is a welcome and if the new kids Fab Melo and Sullinger can come in contribute they'll be nice steals. Big guys Jason Collins, Chris Wilcox and Darko won't be asked to do much and that should be a good thing. A finals return is not unlikely, the Celtics possess the intensity, discipline, and fearlessness to match up and beat the Heat. Prediction: Least Finals

CENTRAL

Motown - The once East Final staple is still rebuilding and not expected to make a run anytime soon. Tayshaun Prince is the sole member left from the glory days, but at least they seem to have a pretty good big man in Greg Monroe. A return to the lottery is pretty much guaranteed. Preidciton: Duh.

Cleveland - As expected Miami won the race to the trophy, but all has not been bad for King Crab's former team. ROY Kyrie Irving is an all-star in the making is being surrounded with some young talent that should be fun to watch but won't do much in the win column. Casspi and Miles will form the backbone in the bench, but that's it. The starting five along with Irving, youngsters Gee, Waiters, and Thompson and hold back Varejao should match up with plenty of teams, give them a few years to grow under Byron Scott and they may be contending in a couple of years. Prediction: Lotto bound

Milwaukee - The Bucks parted ways with their big man to make room for an top scoring guard, didn't they have this already? While on paper the combo of Jennings and Monta Ellis looks pretty good, it's hard to imagine both taking turns shooting, it's gonna be interesting to see.  Besides their high shooting guards, nothing else will make team "fear the deer" The only significant addition was re-signing Ilyasova. Prediction: Lotto

Chicago - The most important thing for Da Bulls is surviving without Derrick Rose. They are not expected to make a huge dent, some to not even make the playoffs. It was bad luck to have their young star suffer an injury like this and pretty much lose a year, but if he can come back close to what he used to be, it will keep the Bulls contending. Even with the loss of Rose, the Bulls remain a decent team. Kirk Hinrich returns for a 2nd stint and run the floor while Rose returns. The other starters are solid and this would be a great time for Boozer to earn his contract. The bench got weaker with the loss of Asik and Brewer but still employ super sub Taj Gibson and newcomer Belinelli. While not a favorite anymore, the Bulls will still compete, and if Rose returns and plays close to his level, this is not a team anyone would want to play in the first round. Prediction: Low seed, first round exit.

Indiana - The Pacers have improved the last two season and no longer will catch anyone by surprise anymore, in fact the expectations are high. The third best team in the Least lost some punch with the loss of Collison and Barbosa. Newcomer Agustine will get a chance to play for a contender now and will be expected to run the floor when Hill rests. The other four players form a nice starting five with youngsters George and Hibbert still long ways from reaching their potential. West and Granger are the dependable vets that just by doing what they've done in their careers will help this clup immensely. Indiana is a top 3, but not really a contender, they will give the 2nd seed all they can handle in the 2nd round, but will fall short of a Final Four trip. Prediction: East semis

SOUTHEAST

Orlando - The Southeast is a one team division now with Dwight Howard gone and the Hawks reloading. The Magic got snubbed bad, and only Afflalo is the sole bright spot. Prediction: Rock bottom

Charlotte - MJ's boys at least won't be as bad as last year, oh they'll be bad, but not historically bad. Newcomer Ramon Sessions did Lakers a favor and opted out making room for Nash in LA, with expectations low, he should have a decent season. Bobkittens also adden vets Ben Gordon and 2011 champ Brendan Haywood who at once were pretty good players, and again should have a decent year. The young ones are the ones that hold the key of Bobcats becoming the new Clippers or bringing pro basketball back to the state of NC. Kidd-Gilchrest joins another young talent in Walker, but have little else unless big men Biyombo and Mullens have a breakout year. Prediction: Lotto

Washington - The capital team added some nice pieces bringing in former ROY Okafor, versatile Trevor Ariza, to join last season addition of Nene and pick Beal to run alongside John Wall. Unfortunately this first 3 players mentioned have not been known to finish full seasons in their career, if healthy they will have a nice starting unit that will contend most nights, but already they are down one as John Wall is expected to miss the first month of basketball. Besides the starters they have very little on the reserves, the key is still health, if they can remain healthy they'll fighting for the last seed, but still not quite there: Prediction: Lotto

Atlanta - Their streak of second round exits ended and they have now unloaded the monster contract of Joe Johnson, so where are they at now. Again the Hawks will make the post season but not really pose any threat. They still possess a nice 4/5 combo in Smith and Horford and are loaded at the guard spot with newcomers Devin Harris, Lous Williams, and even DeShawn Stevenson. They won't have a problem scoring and may surprise a few teams if they suddenly catch fire. but unless they can close out a tight game without having to depend on the long ball, it's another early exit. Prediction: First Round

Miami - The reigning champs are favorites to not only repeat in the Least but overall. With the additions of Allen and Lewis experts are pretty much penning them as repeat champs. The main advantage they have is their new commitment to a position less offense which allows James to wreck havoc at the 4, the Bostrich make his slow defender ineffective removing him from play or the floor, Battier pick up wing defensive unit, Wade be Wade, and any other member that can hit from outside. If they played traditional 1-5, teams could match up and expose weakness with Bosh/James playing out of position it creates match up problems in their favor which little teams can adjust to. As far as being targets, hell they've been targets the last 2 years, so they'll be fine. If a team has bigs that can punish them inside slowing the game down, they can be beat. In the Least only Boston with their experience and hatred and maybe just maybe New York and their loaded offense can dethrone them. In the West, OKC remains favorite, stubborn San Antonio, and the revamped Lakers it they can get production from the bench. Dallas and the other LA can beat them in the regular season, not sure about the playoffs. Prediction: Finals

NORTHWEST

Portland - Rip city could use some luck after the unfortunate retirement of Roy and the unlucky health of Oden. As in recent years, the Rose Garden will still be a tough place to play. All Star Aldridge is still there, rookie Damien Lillard looks promising, and Matthews and Batum should be solid. Unfortunately they play in the West, in the Least they'd be a lock for the playoffs, here they'll be fighting for the last seed in a competitive division where they'll finish 4th or 5th. Tough break. Prediction: Lotto

Utah - Like Portland the Jazz will surprise a few teams especially in their building, but will not have enough to land them in the post season in the fierce West. With a line up employing Jefferson, Millsap, Hayward, and newcomer Mo Williams and a bench that includes Favors and Kanter, it doesn't sound too bad does it. This Jazz version lacks the blue collar mentality from Coach Sloan though, they'll score, they'll win, but they're not stopping anyone. Prediction: Fight for 8th barely miss it

Minnesota - It has been 8 years since the Timberpups tasted post season, that may come to an end this season with the return of AK47 and Roy to the NBA. A couple of vets of their skill is just what the Pups needed to get them back in the post season even if it means a first round exit. If the Pups can survive the first month without their All Star Love and Rubio can continue close to where he left off, exciting ball is expected in Minny. AK teammate Shved looks like he can ball and JJ Barea should come back after a sub par year and show he earned his contract and Budinger contribute right away. Pekovic and Derrick Williams while not stars fit nicely in their systems, and once sought point Ridnour will hold guard until Rubio returns. Prediction: Fight for 8th, return to post season

Mile High - The Denver Nuggets have always been known to have non-star squad that competes every year. Considered one of the deepest teams the Nuggets again will run over teams that do not take them seriously. Team USA member Andre Iguodala will bring versatility they have not had, teamed with Lawson,McGee, Faried, Chandler, and Brewer, they are gonna have a blazing athletic trio. To balance it out Gallinari and the ever dependable Miller will still be there. They should be a fun bunch to watch. Prediction: Good but not elite, will be in 4-6 mix, but they're high octane offense won't work in the playoffs and will exit in the first round.

OKC - Where else can the bad taste in the mouth Thunder go. Anything but not only a return to the Finals but a parade through OKC will be a failed season. The Thunder kept their core and should be inspired by last year's short comings. Gone is Fisher but back will be Maynor who will be great to have back.  **With the loss of Harden they lose a huge advantage they had against most teams save Miami. Martin will give them plenty of scoring punch, but lack the play making that Harden brought. Still will win the division, finish among the top 2, and expected to bring home the Larry O'Brien Trophy. Prediction: West Finals, return to Finals likely.

PACIFIC

Phoenix - With the departure of its face of the franchise the last 8 years also go their chance to remain relevant. Nash has moved on to the hated Lakers, and while they added Scola, Beasly, and Dragic they will suffer what most west teams do, they play in a stacked conference where they'll be no easy games. Can't see them more than a stop in a long season. Prediction: Lotto

Sacramento - Faring no much better than Phoenix, the still in Sacramento Kings will no have a very memorable last season in Sac Town, if it is their last season here, I really hope not, I think they have had great fans always. As far the team goes they're loaded with young talent but don't seem to have an identity. Evans needs to get back to his ROY form, Salmons needs to remember how to play again, and Cousins need to stop being a head ache. The talent is there to compete for the last spot someone needs to step up as leader. Prediction: Lotto

The City - These first three teams reviewed will not have wining records, the best one of the three if healthy should be the Warriors. The Warriors now have with the addition of former #1 pick Bogut and rookie Barnes alongside former All-Star Lee a solid front line to go along a talented back court of Curry and Thompson. The question is, "How many games will they play together?". When healthy and relived by Jarrett Jack, Jefferson, and Rush will be feisty team to put away, but the walking M.A.S.H. unit has proven otherwise, once too many times. Prediction: Lotto

Other LA - The New LA Kings, Lob City, Flop City, whatever their new nickname is are set to take the reigns from their co-tenant. Considered one of the deepest if not the deepest team in the league, some have the Clips actually as serious contenders for the title. The Additions of Grant Hill, Lamar Odom, Matt Barnes, and super sub Jamaal Crawford along with token bigs Turiaf and Hollins join a lineup that even without Billups is still a force.. on paper. This is the Clippers afterall and if it's too good to be true, it's probably not. On paper they can compete with the likes of Miami, but I'm still not convinced DJ has improved immensely as they claim. Griffin is still pretty much a highlight reel, Hill, Butler and Billups are not iron men, and former Laker Odom may never recover from last year. Another thing is, they will no longer sneak up on anyone, and teams will look to ground Lob City, besides Paul, Hill, and Billups can they handle the expectations? Prediction: 4-6 mix, if 4-5 will advance and bow out again in the semis, if 6 will have a disappointing first round exit.

Lake Show - The revamped Lakers are loaded to win now not later. With a star studded starting five anything but a parade through Figueroa will be considered a bust. On paper theLakers look dominant, but the reality is how fast will they get used to playing alongside each other as they look horrible in pre season. The bench looks much improved with the additions of former 6th man Jamison, 3 point specialist Jodie Meeks and the return of Jordan Hill, but I have seen many "great" pickups backfire for the Lakers while they succeed anywhere else they play, such as Teagle, Rooks, Rider, Foster, Richmond, Hunter, Murray, Russell, McKie, Radmanovic, Barnes, Blake, Murphy to name a few. So, until I see them play I'll believe it. Unless the injury bug hits them like their last failed All-Star Squad in '04, they should have a deep run. Prediction: West Finals, return to Finals and last team standing, highly probable.

SOUTHWEST

Houston - With the addition of Harden they now have a legit star to run alongside hyped Lin, the thing is that's pretty much all they have. Asik was a good pickup, but other than that everyone else is unproven. Still I had them finishing last in the division before the trade, I'm sticking to it. Prediction: Lotto

New Orleans - At least the arrival of the Brow and Rivers will slowly make fans forget CP3, if Gordon can stay healthy and get back to his Team USA form, they will have a good thing going for them. They're still young and lack some vet presence. They're time will come. Prediction: Lotto

Memphis - A loaded team that would tear it up in the Least but will be bottom feeder in the West. The Grizzlies employ a talented starting five but no longer have the instant offense that Mayo gave them. Still Randolph and Gasol may not be highlights but are very good at what they do. Conley and Allen compliment each other nicely and Gay is still one of the better wings in the game. The lack of bench punch hurts though: Prediction: First Round Exit

Dallas - Unlike most fans and experts I don't expect the former champs to fade away from its winning ways just yet. Nowitzki, Marion, and Beaubois are the lone mainstays from their title run, but they reloaded nicely picking up Collison, Mayo, Brand, Dahntay Jones, and Kaman, 5 players who have been pretty good in their careers more often than not. If the new faces can contribute anywhere near what they have done in their careers, Dallas may not be a contender but will far from be a pushover. The one setback is the recent news of Nowitzki having to miss extended time, well, better now than later. Prediction: Top 5 in West, toss up between first round or second.

San Antonio - Phil Jackson once referred as cockroaches, they just won't go away. One look at their roster and it doesn't impress much past their big 3, but oh that Spurs management that always seems to get the right players for their system. The ageless wonder of TD will continue to help the new alpha of the team Parker. As long as they have TD and Poppovich I don't see this team not competing not only for best record, but the whole enchilada itself. Unlike the Lakers they are expected to be in the mix every year, but if they fail, is no biggie, of course if they win it it's no surprise either. Prediction: Top 2 in West, Top 3 Overall, West Finals if top seed, 2nd round if 2nd seed,  no surprise if make run to the Finals.

New LA Kings fall to Cavs, ha!

So after universally being crowned the kings of the LA and possible west favorite, Lob City has fallen short against two lotto bound teams, the most recent coming at the expense of the former Crabs. Honestly I wasn't even gonna watch this game, but when I saw the possiblity I saw the all but the 2nd quarter and saw that not much has changed in La-La Land, Lakers still dominate the headlines, and Clips are still losing. Now I'm reading, "Just wait 'til we get Billups and Hill, then we'll be unstopable", or "We have a some new faces", ha!, but if the Lakers use the same reasons, it's just excuses, brilliant. With undefeated Spurs coming in on Wednesday and if Lakers win at Utah, they will have the exact same record of 2-3. except the Lakers won't be on a losing streak, what now, will the Lakers still be done in LA? The "talented" front court of the Clippers was outrebounded by Anderson Varejao, no kidding. Is there really a Clippers curse? Does it not matter what kind of roster you have, you are destined to always suck. I actually had Clips winning both games, but glad I was wrong, and really enjoyed the excuses haters are making. No word from the "experts" though, guess they're in shock, or hiding.

Lakers Pummel Pistons Get First W

Nothing like playing a lotto team to get you out of a funk. The once consistent Detroit Pistons were just what the Lakers needed to get their first victory on the board. The game not close, the Lake Show dominated from the get go and while the bench still sucked and the starters inexcusibly were put back in,  it was good to get  a win.

Player of the Game: Superman 2.0 continues his stellar play for the purple and gold. 28 points 7 rebounds and 3 block shots.

X-Factor: Anytime World Peace contriubes offensively it's a nice bonus, but when he has a night when he shoot 7/11 including 3/6 from downtown, it makes the Lakers are little scarier.

Should Have Been benched: Devin Ebanks, contriubed 0 points on 0/6 shooting in 12 minutes in a blowout.

Laker Hater: Jonas Jerebko had his early season hight in FG%, 3 pointers, free throws, assists, and points, mostly during garbage time, but still.

Overtime: Other than the Lake show finally getting a win, I enjoyed the New LA Kings getting beat on their own floor by the lotto bound Warriors who were without their big man and newly injured Brandon Rush. I guess they thought beating the Lakers would intimidate the other teams as they failed to come alive by waling M.A.S.H. unit. The Warriors took a big lead in the first quarter and survived a late rally capping with a defensive stance by Stephen Curry of all people. Improved top center DeAndre Jordan had 4 points and 8 boards vs Carl Landy and someone I've never heard of, to hear the Clipper commentators rave about how awesome this team is especially DJ, is quite entertaining.

Battle L.A. 2012 Act I

After most games I like reading the recaps and maybe checking out a few boards see what the haters are up to.  The revamped Lake Show hosted the New LA Kings and according to the "experts" it is a game showing two teams going in different directions. Lob City is suddenly a well oiled defense and offensive machine that thrashed the Lakers. I don't know, perhaps I have a different deffinition of "thrashing", yes they lost by the lowest single digit and actually cut the lead to 8 before succumbing, and fouling out of frustration giving them six freebies to end the game, and while they made it look easy thanks to the Lakers inability to take care of the the ball, it was not a masterful game by any standards. The leagues deepest bench according to their broadcasters did what they were supposed to do, pummel the Lakers bench 46-14 and that was the difference, the Lakers starters actually outscored the younger athletic and more talented again according to what I read by 20 points, 79-59. There were no lobs, there were no posters, The Lakers shot better from the the floor and from downtown, outrebounded them, and blocked more shots. Clips did have more steals and assists, which you would expect a team led by perennial said stat leader Chris Paul would do, especially when the Lakers are without their quarterback. Also, something that has failed to be mentioned was the fact that Howard fought foul trouble throught the game, never got in rhythm and still matched the rebound output by the Clips centers and had more swats, for all that was raved about DJ improving on offense, I have yet to see it, he had a huge game in the pre-season game, but it's a little different with Dwight in there isn't it? So the Lakers lost, and now they're 0-3, disillusioned haters actually hope and believe they will miss the playoffs, and even boast a winless season, seriously? Enjoy it haters, especially those so called "rivals", so the Clips won the game, as bad as the Lakers have been, it should have been a clinic, yet the so called best power forward in the game and the next superstar could only muster 15 points & 8 boards against the soft Gasol and srcubs in a bench. Not really much to get excited about, but hey, it's easy to get excited about a season victory if your a Clipper fan, since that's is as about as far as you can hope for on every year, a couple of victories early in the season.

Player of the Game: Supersub Jamaal Crawford continues his stellar play off the bench, early pick for Sixth Man of the Year.

X-Factor: Former Laker Matt Barnes, had only 8 points and 5 boards, but was part of the run that gave the Clippers a commanding lead and he had some big plays.

Should Have Been Benched: The Artest formally know as Ron shot more than Gasol and Howard, sure it's not his fault he actually shoots the ball, but many of those were ill adviced, he ended up 3/10 including 1/7 from trey and 1 board.

Laker Hater: The candy man Lamar Odom is here only because he actually looked like he wanted to play, he finished with 5 points including hitting a buzzer beater when the Clips needed one. Typical.

Overtime: Mamba now is the franchise's leader in steals. In the 26 seasons I have followed basketball, I have never, never heard so much being made from pre season games, apperantely the Lakers are now on a 13 game winning streak counting the last 2 losses to OKC, pre-season, and their current start, since when did these games become part of the streak. Seriously? It's not uncommon to see hate on the Lakers every year and the standard to which they are rated on high to plain silly, but this is just plain ridiculous,

Lakers are 0-2, They're Lotto Bound!

For the second straight season the reloaded Lakers are 0-2. Unlike last year haters around are already inking them for the lottery, that's hilarious.  The Lakers have lost both games by a combined 18 points, it's not like they're getting blown out. The biggest problems have been turnovers, currently 39 for two games, damn!, that's an average or right below 20.  Due to the turnover the opposing team has shot in 47% and 50%, that's not gonna get it done. Game 1 also had 19 missed free throws, that could have changed the game in the winding minutes had they hit at leat 60% of the freebies. The Lake Show it's currently shooting 50% and outrebounding and out assisting teams, they're moving the ball around and active, they're not doing it consistently. At times they have looked pretty smooth, but much too often, not comfortable when pressure comes. The last game also had Nash exit with an injury not the sight us fans want to see, especially when they were playing pretty well. The Rose Garden has always been tough for Lakers, even in ther championship years, and back then the Blazer used to pummel the Lakers at the Garden, no so this time, but it's a bigger deal now even though they're still unproven, the hate for this team is unbelievable. Blazers did what a smart team should do versus a team playing on their second night and getting high in age, and that's run at every chance. And even then, the Lakers still made a run and were withing striking distance in the fourth. I don't expect Lakers to win at the Rose Garden, when they do it's awesome, and considering the loss, it was a much better effort from the team and I really liked what I saw from Dwight.

Player of the Game: Nicolas Batum was outstanding tallying 26 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals, he just seemed to always hit a shot at the right time.

X-Factor: Great debut for rookie Damian Lillard who showed great poise versus the big bad Lakers finished with 23 points and 11 dimes, nice pick so far the Rip City.

Should Have Been Benched: Even though Jamison contiunes to struggle bench favorite Jordan Hill had a very disspointing games loggin no points but 2 turnovers and 3 fouls, he only played 8 minutes.

Laker Hater: Sasha Pavlovic only scored 7 points, he logged in that many points or higher a total of 4 times all last season.

Overtime: Kobe Bryant next steal will tie the Hall of Famer Magic Johnson for top in franchise. Also last game's x-factor, Eddy Curry logged in 8 minutes and 2 points vs Utah, he finished with 17 minutes 7 points and 4 rebounds, not spectacular, but enough to do damage vs. Lakers, it's also just been known that he is likely to be waived to make room for former Laker Troy Murphy.

Up Next; Battle L.A. Lob City come to town, er. I mean the visitor's room for the battle for L.A. Supremacy, the Lake Show might be without Steve Nash, you that Odom and Barnes are gonna go for a big game, one of the leagues deepest team comes in against a still unproven bench, this could get ugly if Lakers can't control the tempo. Keep Clip town from playing playground basketball, and they'll pull it out, The Lakers can't really go 0-3 can they? Hey at least they got Detroit on Sunday
