the much anticipated opener for the new look Lakers finally arrived. Like all fans I was excited to know Superman 2.0 and Mamba would be available to play. I'd figure they'd be rusty and was glad theyr were facing a beat up Mavericks team where they could make up for any mistakes. Boy was I way the hell off, the new look Mavs missing their cornerstone and their new big man stunned the favored Lakers spoiling their debut for them and their fans. In very short spurts the Lakers looked great, then confusion set in. Too many times, they look stagnant, lost, this is not the way the title favorites should look. Sure it's one game, but for one that has followed them so long and has seen the new components at their best, it was hard to see that at first impression this experiment looks like a failure, but again, it's ONE game, 81 games to go. Maveircks on the other hand looked pretty good, fearless, nothing too loose and they made it look easy, recent former good players like Eddy Curry (Seriously?), Vince Carter and Matrix had flashes of old and made the Lake show look slow and out dated. Not convinced on this new offense yet, but hey at one time the triangle seemed boring, this roster is too good to fail, let's hope it was just first game jitter and overconfidence that made them fall flat on day 1.
Player of the Game. New comer Darren Collison outplayed his counterpart Steve Nash with 17 points, 4 assists and 3 steals while controlling the floor and pestering Steve Nash.
X-Factor: Eddy Curry and Vince Carter turning back the clock. Curry abused Gasol and Howard at the right time and Vinsanity finished with the highest +/- for the game 13 showing the once promising players are not done just yet.
Should Have Been Benched: The Artest formally known as Ron, with all the rage about how in shape he is in tallied 3 points on 1 for 8 shooting and 3 turnovers in 36 minutes.
Laker Hater: This is Eddy Curry's highest point output in a meaningful game, since November 18, 2009 when he was still with the Knicks. That opposing purple & gold sure bring out the best in the worst of has beens.
Overtime: Ramon Sessions debut last season was: 19 minutes, 3/6 for 7 points, 4 rebs, 5 assists, and 3 turnovers, 2 time MVP Steve Nash logged in 34 minutes 3/9 shooting, 7 points 2 rebs, 4 assists and 1 turnover. Of course Sessions was allowed to run the point, Nash played off the ball, wasn't Kobe supposed to relinquish ball handling to Nash? Kind of makes you wonder about the aquisition, I mean use your assests to the best of their abilities, what's next, Howard shooting technicals? Artests & Gasol playing backcourt or Blake & Meeks posting up? Don't make any sense.
Next up, the dreaded Rose Garden vs. the Portland Trailblazers, on a back to back, Oy!
